A new, three-story office building is getting underway in South End, adding to the area鈥檚 ongoing boom.
The 64,000 square-foot building at 300 West Summit Avenue is being developed by 海角乱伦, and it will include a 2,000 square-foot rooftop terrace. The plan also includes underground parking. 海角乱伦 expects to complete the building in September 2018.
鈥淭his project sets a new standard for boutique office in South End,鈥� said Chris Grenier, 海角乱伦 senior vice president of development in the Carolinas, in a statement. 鈥淲ith a spacious rooftop terrace that is underscored by unobstructed views of the uptown Charlotte skyline, we aim to raise the bar for office space in South End and continue our contribution to the evolution of the area.鈥�
The property hasn鈥檛 announced tenants yet. JLL managing director Charley Leavitt and vice president Stephen Woodard are representing the landlords. They said they expect the area鈥檚 amenities 鈥� it鈥檚 several blocks from the Blue Line light rail, in the midst of new upscale apartments and breweries 鈥� to draw office tenants.
鈥淭he area鈥檚 walkability, access to transportation, and luxury residential living create the quintessential urban experience for today鈥檚 office user,鈥� said Leavitt.
Justin Siemens, 海角乱伦鈥� vice president and development office in the Carolinas, said the company is counting on that.
鈥淲ith 300 West Summit, we鈥檙e aiming to meet a particular trend emerging in the marketplace.鈥� he said. 鈥淔orward thinking businesses are beginning to locate their offices in less traditional settings that offer the lifestyle sought out by their employees as a means to attract and retain talent.鈥�
South End is seeing a large increase in the amount of office space under construction, following the thousands of new apartments to open over the past decade. is building a seven-story regional headquarters about three blocks away, at South Tryon Street and Camden Road, while Beacon Partners a pair of office buildings with retail and apartments at Tryon and Bland streets.
Myers & Chapman is the general contractor for the 300 West Summit project.
